THE WINTER STORY

The winter has come and the snow has fallen onto the ground. All the animals have hibernated and all the birds have gone south. Only one little bird stays behind. He broke his little tail and cannot fly far nor high.

So he flies through the forest asking for a place to stay, to hide until the winter goes away.

He comes to an aspen tree with pretty green leaves. He asks:
Oh aspen tree! Oh aspen tree!
May I hide in your green green leaves?
The winter has come and my tail is broken
I shall be frozen in the cold cold breezes
So please, let me hide in your leaves.

But the aspen tree says:
Oh no , you may not
I am so pretty and deity
You are one ugly little bird
I don’t want you in my pretty green leaves! Go away!”

The little bird is so sad and tired. He continues to fly further in hope for some place to hide.

Then he comes to an apple tree with beautiful red apples dangling all around the canopy. He asks:
Oh apple tree! Oh apple tree!
May I hide in your green green leaves?
The winter has come and my tail is broken
I shall be frozen in the cold cold breezes
So please, let me hide in your leaves.

But the apple tree says:
Oh no, you may not
My apples are tasty and my leaves shiny
You are one ugly little bird
I don’t want you in my shiny green leaves! Go away!”

The little bird is so very sad and very tired. He continues to fly further to try and find some place to hide.

Then he comes to a big oak tree with stretching strong branches and a lot of leaves. He asks:
Oh big oak tree! Oh strong oak tree!
May I hide in your green green leaves?
The winter has come and my tail is broken
I shall be frozen in the cold cold breezes
So please, let me hide in your leaves
.”

But the big strong oak tree says:
“Oh no, you may not
I am mighty and strong are my branches
You are one ugly little bird
I don’t want you on my strong branches! Go away!”

The little bird was very very weak and very very tired. He finally comes to an evergreen tree. He was exhausted he cannot say anything.

The evergreen tree sees the little bird with his broken tail and says:
Oh poor little bird!
Come hide in my leaves!
The winter has come and the north wind will blow
Come in my warm leaves, stay away from the snow.

So the little bird comes and stays in the leaves of the evergreen tree.

Then the North wind starts to blow. But Father Wind told the North wind to blow hard and blow everywhere she wanted, except for the evergreen tree, because he was so very kind.

So the wind blows hard and the wind blows everywhere. The wind blows at the aspen tree. All his leaves shaken and fall down to the ground. The tree is now bare and covered in snow.

The North wind blows hard and the wind blows everywhere. The wind blows at the apple tree. All his apples shaken and his leaves tremble. They all fall down to the ground and the tree is now bare and covered in snow.

The wind blows hard and the wind blows everywhere. The wind blows at the big oak tree. All his leaves shaken and his branches tremble. Then all the leaves fall down to the ground and the tree is now bare and covered in snow.

Except for the evergreen tree. He is so kind and welcoming, he stays safe all winter through, with the little lovely bird in his canopy, all cozy and warm, where he happily sings “coo, coo, coo”.
